COACH-ED is a free, self-paced online educational program designed by the Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders (SCWD) and the Cancer Cachexia Society (CCS) for medical oncologists who want to sharpen their understanding and management of cancer cachexia, a serious syndrome that causes progressive muscle and weight loss in cancer patients, and one that is far more common and clinically significant than many realize.

The program covers everything from recognizing and diagnosing cachexia early, to understanding the biological mechanisms driving it, to applying both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies in real clinical settings. It is CME-accredited, meaning participants earn a certified credit upon completing all four modules.

After completing this program, clinicians will be able to

  • Apply a multidisciplinary approach to identify cancer cachexia, assess its impact on treatment outcomes, and guide appropriate management.
  • Apply a structured clinical approach to distinguish cancer cachexia from malnutrition, stage the condition accurately, and initiate early, practical interventions to support patient function and treatment tolerance.
  • Describe non-pharmacological therapies for cancer cachexia and critically appraise their underlying rationale and key limitations.
  • Appraise the evidence for established and investigational pharmacologic interventions in cancer cachexia and incorporate appropriate treatment strategies into individualized patient care.
